The basic idea of inventing edible disposable tableware stems from the desire to rid the world and our society of waste. Humans are the only living beings that, while inhabiting planet Earth, produce horrendous amounts of waste that is unrecoverable for the environment. The aspiration to break away from this disastrous basic context marks the beginning of the history of Edible Tableware & Cutlery® and our motivation to not only limit it to one or the other utensil, but to apply it to all possible forms of such utensils for daily consumption. Globally overused disposable tableware, such as plates, cups, but also cutlery, in the form of knives, spoons and forks, as well as small straws, used to consist per se of resource-destroying, inorganic components (such as plastic), which were either incinerated after a single use or irretrievably disposed of in landfills at home or abroad. This causes irreparable damage to nature, which we no longer want to accept and have therefore made it our moral and rational duty to do so. Every single human being is responsible for tons of waste that nature no longer knows how to use, because a large part of it, above all plastic tableware and cutlery, also consisting of so-called “bioplastics” and other pseudo-green composites, is still largely either de facto sold or incinerated, creating so-called slag, i.e. dead soil for which humans are responsible. Putting an end to this madness with our creative actions was precisely our motivation and our subsequent logic not only to think about edible tableware & cutlery, but also to bring it into this world for real.
